Northley Hosts Inaugural Strike Out Cancer Classic

Northley Middle School hosted the inaugural Strike Out Cancer Classic on May 18, bringing students, staff, families, and community members together in support of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.

The event featured softball games, raffle baskets, 50/50 drawings, concessions, desserts, and more, all benefiting the foundation’s mission to fight childhood cancer.

Organized by Northley’s Baseball, Softball, and Student Council programs, the Strike Out Cancer Classic marked the school’s second fundraising effort this year in support of the organization. Thanks to the generosity of students, families, staff, local businesses, and community members, the event has already raised more than $4,000 for pediatric cancer research. Donations will continue to be accepted over the next two weeks, with a final fundraising total to be announced at a later date.

The goal of the event extended beyond fundraising, focusing on teaching students the importance of giving back to the community, promoting awareness of cancer prevention and self-examination, and demonstrating how even small acts of kindness can make a meaningful impact.

One especially heartwarming story highlighted the impact of the event on students. A sixth-grade student quietly visited the lemonade stand and donated $81 after organizing a small lemonade stand of his own to contribute. Stories like this reflect the lasting impression the event made and underscore its importance to the school community.

In a statement from the organizing committee, event leaders shared:

"We would also like to extend a very special thank you to our local businesses, organizations, and sponsors who generously donated supplies and support for the event. Because of their contributions, 100% of the money raised was able to go directly to the cause.”
