Six Penn-Delco Staff Members Honored Upon Retirement

The Penn-Delco School District honored six retirees during the May 26 School Board Meeting, recognizing a combined 154 years of dedicated service to students, families, and the school community.

This year’s retirees include:

  • Barbara Boyle - 21 years
  • Barbara Herbus - 30 years
  • Joan Kelly - 19 years
  • Betsy King - 29 years
  • Maureen Irving - 34 years
  • Joanne Mathewson - 21 years

Each retiree was celebrated for the lasting impact they made throughout their careers in Penn-Delco schools.

Barbara Boyle was recognized for her compassion and commitment to supporting students and families throughout her many roles in the district, including counselor, Home and School Visitor, and alternative education leader. Colleagues praised her servant leadership and unwavering dedication to helping others.

Barbara Herbus retired after 30 years as the district’s Tax and Accounts Receivable Specialist. Known for her precision, reliability, and kindness, she played a vital role in the district’s business office while also creating a welcoming environment for coworkers and visitors alike.

Joan Kelly, a longtime paraprofessional at Aston Elementary, was celebrated for her firm but caring approach with students and the meaningful relationships she built during her nearly two decades of service.

School nurse Betsy King was recognized for the care and compassion she showed students, staff, and families throughout her career at various Penn-Delco schools. Colleagues described her as thoughtful, dependable, and deeply committed to the school community.

Maureen Irving, the district’s most senior teacher, leaves behind a remarkable legacy of creating welcoming classroom communities and building strong relationships with students and families. Her positivity, kindness, and dedication made a lasting impact.

At Northley Middle School, Joanne Mathewson was honored for her 21 years as an English Language Arts teacher. Colleagues highlighted her positivity, collaborative spirit, and ability to connect with students while creating a supportive and engaging classroom environment.

Penn-Delco thanks each retiree for their years of service, dedication, and commitment to students and wishes them all the best in retirement.
